Gaetan Pelletier, the executive director of the Northern Hardwoods Research Institute, said one concrete example of how digitalizing the sector would lead to savings is making how lumber is transported more efficient.<\/p>\n

He said 40 per cent of lumber trucks travelling with an empty load, which could be solved through digitalization.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo reduce this 40 per cent, what we call empty miles, by digitalization, by optimization, by centralizing the dispatch of those 200, 300 trucks in New Brunswick, we could save annually $25 million,\u201d said Pelletier.<\/p>\n
