{"id":933592,"date":"2026-10-15T05:46:17","date_gmt":"2026-10-15T05:46:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/933592\/"},"modified":"2026-10-15T05:46:17","modified_gmt":"2026-10-15T05:46:17","slug":"crews-battle-three-alarm-fire-at-abandoned-building-in-riverside-cp24","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/933592\/","title":{"rendered":"Crews battle three-alarm fire at abandoned building in Riverside \u2013 CP24"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Toronto fire crews are investigating after a three-alarm fire broke out at an abandoned building in Riverside on Wednesday night. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">An abandoned building in Riverside was destroyed after a large fire broke out Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Toronto Fire Services Chief Jim Jessop said crews got several calls shortly after 9:30 p.m. for a structure fire at 2 Matilda St., east of the Don Valley Parkway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cUpon arrival, we were met with heavy, heavy flames and fire coming out through the roof,\u201d Jessop said. \u201cIt was quickly escalated to a third alarm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/5GF7LO4P45EYXLVRRF573YCWTM.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/>Toronto Fire A three-alarm fire broke out at an abandoned building near the DVP on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026. (Sarah Carione\/City of Toronto) <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The chief said northbound DVP and portions of Queen Street and Dundas Street had to be closed to allow crews to surround the building and fight the fire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe will be on site all night. The bulk of the fire has been knocked down. We have had a number of collapses of the wall and the ceiling, and we are continuing to deal with hot spots,\u201d Jessop said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">No injuries have been reported at this time.
