{"id":934405,"date":"2026-10-15T21:38:19","date_gmt":"2026-10-15T21:38:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/934405\/"},"modified":"2026-10-15T21:38:19","modified_gmt":"2026-10-15T21:38:19","slug":"dalhousie-places-third-in-canada-in-2027-macleans-rankings-of-mid-sized-universities-dal-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/934405\/","title":{"rendered":"Dalhousie places third in Canada in 2027 Maclean&#8217;s rankings of mid\u2011sized universities &#8211; Dal News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dalhousie&#8217;s strengths propelled it into third spot overall in Canada in the mid-size university category in the <a href=\"https:\/\/macleans.ca\/education\/university-rankings\/canadas-best-mid-size-universities-for-2027\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2027 Maclean&#8217;s University Rankings<\/a> released this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Universities in the category \u2014 defined as schools with between 10,000 and 30,000 full-time equivalent students \u2014 are ranked on 15 indicators across four key areas with different weights.<\/p>\n<p>Those areas include Student Experience and Success (28%), Faculty Quality (25%), Student Resources and Support (32%), and Reputation (15%), which when combined produce an overall ranking for each school.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dal ranked top in Canada across a range of indicators, including faculty awards, research impact, scholarships and bursaries, and reputation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Maclean&#8217;s used the following data source or definition for these indicators:<\/p>\n<p>Faculty awards: Major faculty awards earned over five years.<br \/>\nResearch impact: OpenAlex; share of output among the top 10% most cited.<br \/>\nScholarships &amp; Bursaries: Statistics Canada; spending on scholarships and bursaries as a share of operating expenditures.<br \/>\nReputation: Angus Reid survey; external views on university quality and innovation.<\/p>\n<p>Dal&#8217;s other areas of strength included student\/faculty ratio, social sciences and humanities grants, and operating budget, where it ranked second across the country. It also placed third for student awards.<\/p>\n<p>A revamped framework<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s Maclean&#8217;s rankings, released Wednesday (Oct. 14), were carried out using an updated format that groups universities into small, medium, and large categories based on size.
