A third person was arrested on Thursday as part of an ongoing protest by cyclists opposed to the removal of bike lanes in Toronto.

In a post on social media platform X, Toronto police said the woman was arrested for mischief and obstructing police in the area of Bloor Street W. and Lothian Avenue, east of Islington Avenue, at about 3:15 p.m.

On Wednesday, two people, a woman and a man, were arrested in the same area, according to police. The woman was arrested in the morning and the man in the afternoon, police said.

Police said the woman, 25, of Hamilton, has been charged with obstructing a police officer and mischief, interfere with property, under $5,000. The man, 20, of Toronto, has been charged with mischief, interfere with lawful use of property and theft under $5,000.

There’s been no word on possible charges in the third person’s arrest.

Cyclists have been trying this week to block the Ontario government from ripping out bike lanes on a stretch of Bloor Street W. in Etobicoke.

The cyclists were able to delay the work on Tuesday evening, but it has begun under police protection.

According to the province, removing the lanes is meant to ease traffic congestion. Many cyclists say the move makes the roads less safe for all road users.

The work to remove the bike lanes is occurring on a 1.2-kilometre section of Bloor Street W. between Clissold Road and Royal York Road.

Listen to this article Estimated 2 minutes The audio version of this article is generated by AI-based technology.…

[445
49,48,635,82
post-934435","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-cycling","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-cycling","tag-sports
["GET
