The Tesla website lists the Rocket as \u201cinvite only\u201d and the Thrust as \u201climited.\u201d You can currently only place reservations for the Performance and Thrust versions.<\/p>\n When it was first announced, enthusiasts put down $50,000 deposits for what was advertised as a $200,000 car. Musk posted<\/a> that Altman received a refund in 24 hours.<\/p>\n A reservation page posted on Tesla\u2019s site now charges a $5,000 reservation fee for the Performance variant, with an additional $45,000 due within 10 days. The Thrust is available for an initial $5,000 fee, with $245,000 due within 10 days.<\/p>\n Musk has said that Tesla should no longer be regarded as a carmaker and that the company is focused on building autonomous vehicle technology and robots.<\/p>\n The unveiling event comes at a weird time for electric vehicles<\/a>. Sales of EVs have stalled in the US after the GOP-led Congress nixed federal support<\/a>. Meanwhile, the global energy crisis has EV sales booming elsewhere<\/a>. Electric luxury hypercars\u2014the class to which the Roadster 2 belongs\u2014are in an especially tricky spot.
