As they say, admitting you have a problem is half the battle. So in theory, those anxious about a ketamine enthusiast<\/a>, white supremacist<\/a> tech mogul having control over not only a major social media network but much of the country\u2019s space program might take solace in the fact that Elon Musk<\/a> has come right out and said that he\u2019s feeling a bit iffy about all his AI-obsessed screen time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAt various points this year,\u201d Musk said at a Twitter event, as reported by Business Insider<\/a>, \u201cI\u2019ve had AI or SI psychosis probably like half a dozen times.\u201d Musk also stated, \u201cI\u2019ve got a little bit of cyber psychosis,\u201d adding, rather ominously, \u201cMaybe a lot actually.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, is the person dumping hundreds of millions of dollars<\/a> into the upcoming election in support of right-wing candidates and cutting off vital satellite service<\/a> to a beleaguered U.S. ally during wartime something to worry about? Well, perhaps this moment of public self-reflection and clarity about Musk\u2019s vulnerability to being swept into a recursive loop of AI-generated conspiracy theories and delusion is the first step toward the multi-billionaire\u2019s journey of enlightenment that he should go out and touch some grass sometime.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Then again, this is Elon Musk<\/a>, who immediately pivoted to raving about the glory of AI-generated \u201cmusic.\u201d He\u00a0 defended the soulless synth-din, saying, \u201cCalling it slop-core is a misnomer. Frankly it\u2019s awesome-core. AI music is really good. It just shows taste, and you\u2019re like, \u2018Wow, AI can do good taste? That\u2019s pretty wild.’\u201d<\/p>\n

For those not in the know, AI psychosis<\/a>, while not a medically recognized ailment (as yet), is ably described in Futurism\u2019s article<\/a> about the interview as the manner in which \u201cAI chatbots can drive and exacerbate a user\u2019s delusions, sometimes causing them to break with reality. In extreme cases, these can cause extreme mental health spirals<\/a> that upend someone\u2019s personal and professional life, sometimes ending in self harm or suicide.\u201d For someone as proudly plugged into the self-reinforcing alternate reality<\/a> he helped create as Musk, that\u2019s something of a red flag, as is his adoption of the replacement term \u201cSI\u201d or \u201csuperintelligence\u201d as demanded<\/a> by fellow ranting alt-reality architect Donald Trump recently.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"As they say, admitting you have a problem is half the battle.
