A global retailer known for its affordable lifestyle products and character merchandise has opened a new kind of store in Mississauga, giving Canadian shoppers the first opportunity to experience a concept previously available only in China.

MINISO opened its first international SUPER MINISO location at Square One Shopping Centre on Oct. 10, introducing a larger-format store that combines everyday products with collectible merchandise and displays dedicated to popular entertainment characters.

The opening marks a new chapter for the retailer, which is expanding beyond its traditional lifestyle-goods format to put character merchandise and themed shopping experiences at the centre of its business.

The 1,000-square-metre store features thousands of products inspired by licensed entertainment properties, alongside beauty products, fashion accessories, travel items and everyday essentials.

One of the biggest draws for fans is the Canadian debut of the complete NARUTO × MINISO collection, along with the Stitch Hit Snooze Series.

More merchandise featuring Hello Kitty and Friends, Marvel, Chiikawa, Mofusand and other popular characters is also planned, as is a growing range of products featuring MINISO’s own character, YOYO.

Rather than simply placing branded merchandise on regular shelves, the SUPER MINISO concept uses themed displays and dedicated areas to make browsing part of the shopping experience.

That approach is intended to appeal to fans who collect character merchandise as well as shoppers looking for practical, affordable products.

The concept also reflects the growing importance of licensed characters in retail, where shoppers are drawn to products connected to their favourite anime series, animated characters and entertainment franchises.

MINISO has been expanding its Canadian presence with larger stores and character-focused merchandise. In November 2025, it opened its largest Canadian store at West Edmonton Mall, which the company said set a North American single-day sales record.

The Square One opening takes that strategy a step further by introducing SUPER MINISO outside China for the first time.

The Mississauga store is part of a wider Canadian rollout planned for October and November. The company has announced additional SUPER MINISO locations for Winnipeg and Montréal, while Toronto is expected to get a different concept called MINISO LAND, which places an even greater emphasis on immersive character-themed merchandise.

For Square One, the opening adds another destination for shoppers interested in collectibles and character-driven merchandise, alongside the usual mix of fashion, beauty and lifestyle retailers.

MINISO describes SUPER MINISO as a new kind of lifestyle destination that brings together everyday shopping and popular culture, with further product launches planned following the Canadian debut.
