{"id":935335,"date":"2026-10-16T15:42:09","date_gmt":"2026-10-16T15:42:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/935335\/"},"modified":"2026-10-16T15:42:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-16T15:42:09","slug":"toronto-fire-destroys-east-end-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/935335\/","title":{"rendered":"Toronto fire destroys east-end building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CP24\u2019s Courtney Heels has an update on the demolition of a vacant building and investigation into the fire that shut down sections of the DVP. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A section of the Don Valley Parkway reopened early Friday morning after it was closed to demolish a nearby building <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cp24.com\/local\/toronto\/2026\/10\/15\/northbound-dvp-closed-for-demolition-of-nearby-building-ravaged-by-fire\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.cp24.com\/local\/toronto\/2026\/10\/15\/northbound-dvp-closed-for-demolition-of-nearby-building-ravaged-by-fire\/\">damaged by a massive fire<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Little is left of the abandoned factory building at 2 Matilda St., which sat adjacent to the highway between Queen and Dundas streets, as crews worked overnight to take it apart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The northbound lanes of the highway were closed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night for the work to take place, but reopened before 6 a.m. on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Don Roadway, Eastern Avenue, and Queen Street ramps were also closed during demolition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The cause, origin, and circumstances of the fire, which broke out at around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, are unknown. Police have confirmed to CP24 that the fire has been deemed suspicious.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Paramedics said one police officer was taken to hospital with minor injuries as a result of the fire.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/1792165329_75_AGKKZENJLRHADC2C25A2UM3L6U.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/>A three-alarm fire broke out at an abandoned building near the DVP on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026.
