TOHO animation<\/a> announced on Saturday that\u00a0Toshiya Wakabayashi<\/a>‘s Happy Kanako’s Killer Life (Shiawase Kanako no Koroshiya Seikatsu<\/a>) manga is receiving a television anime adaptation next April. Shinji Takamatsu<\/a> (Gintama<\/a>) is directing the anime at the studio Drive<\/a> and overseeing the series scripts. Yoshiyuki \u014ckubo<\/a> (Teppen\u2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Laughing ’til you Cry<\/a>) is designing the characters and serving as chief animation director. The cast includes Hana Tamegai<\/a> as Kanako Nishino, Ry\u014dta Suzuki<\/a> as Sakurai, and Junichi Suwabe<\/a> as President.<\/p>\n

TOHO animation had teased<\/a> the announcement earlier on Friday with a picture of otters and the words “Otter Agent.”<\/p>\n

Seven Seas Entertainment<\/a> is releasing<\/a> the manga in English, and it describes the story:<\/p>\n

Nishino Kanako sure hates her job, and is only too happy to snag the first new gig that comes her way. She never expected that her interview would be at an agency for contract killers\u2026or that she’d be really, really good at bumping people off! Kanako doesn’t have a ton of self-confidence, and adjusting to her new life as an assassin isn’t the easiest. Will she ever earn the respect of Sakurai, her prickly but kinda hot new coworker? Find out in this dangerously funny, full-color manga!<\/p>\n

Wakabayashi launched the four-panel web manga on Twitter<\/a> and his pixivFANBOX account, and Seikaisha<\/a> has since serialized the manga on its Twi4 service. Seikaisha published the manga’s ninth compiled book volume on May 27. Seven Seas Entertainment released the eighth volume on July 28.<\/p>\n

The manga inspired a live-action<\/a> series that debuted on DMM TV<\/a> in February 2025. A\u00a0second<\/a> season debuted on the same service on September 17.<\/p>\n

Wakabayashi’s Tsuredure Children<\/a> manga chronicles a series of short school romance stories in an omnibus format. Wakabayashi launched<\/a> the manga online in October 2012, and then also began serializing it with new material in Weekly Sh\u014dnen Magazine<\/a> in 2015. The manga ended<\/a> in July 2018. Kodansha USA Publishing<\/a> released<\/a> the manga digitally in English. The manga inspired a television anime that premiered in July 2017. Crunchyroll<\/a> streamed the series with English subtitles as it aired, and Funimation<\/a> streamed an English dub.<\/p>\n
