Police released a photo of the person they were looking for.<\/p>\n

A 20-year-old Mississauga man has been charged with aggravated assault following an alleged attack on another person during a pro-Palestinian demonstration in downtown Toronto.<\/p>\n

Toronto police say Martin Salgatar surrendered to officers on Oct. 12, two days after the alleged assault near Yonge and Grosvenor streets.<\/p>\n

According to police, officers responded to an assault report at approximately 4:55 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, while a demonstration was taking place in the area.<\/p>\n

Investigators allege the victim was walking northbound on Yonge Street near Grosvenor Street and talking with another demonstrator when the suspect approached from behind and punched the victim several times in the head without provocation.<\/p>\n

The victim fell to the ground and sustained injuries to the face and leg, police said.<\/p>\n

The Toronto Police Service\u2019s Hate Crime Unit is handling the investigation. Police have not publicly identified the victim or provided further details about the circumstances leading up to the alleged assault.<\/p>\n

Salgatar has been charged with aggravated assault and was scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Oct. 13.<\/p>\n

The investigation began with a public appeal for help identifying the suspect. On Oct. 11, police released images of a man they wanted to question in connection with the incident.<\/p>\n

Police announced the arrest on Oct. 14.<\/p>\n
