Michael Palin<\/a> has suggested he may retire from international travelling for work, after admitting he finds journeys \u201cincreasingly difficult\u201d.<\/p>\n The actor, writer and presenter, 83, found fame as a member of the Monty Python comedy troupe, but in recent decades has become arguably best known for his travel writing and documentaries \u2013 he has visited and reported from places as far flung as North Korea, the Himalayas and the Saharas.<\/p>\n While promoting his latest travel book In the Philippines, Palin said that he is unsure whether he will continue journeying across the world for work purposes.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m at the stage of not knowing whether I\u2019m going to travel again,\u201d he told Mishal Husain on her eponymous Bloomberg talk show<\/a>. \u201cThe journey is becoming increasingly difficult and I found, especially after the Philippines, that I was very, very exhausted. Not from seeing places and getting experiences, but just the physical effort of being 83 years old and having to wait for four hours because the plane\u2019s been delayed, and then your seat\u2019s been changed and all that.\u201d<\/p>\n Palin added that he still may travel the UK for work reasons, but that international journeys are becoming more of a question mark.<\/p>\n \u201cI mustn\u2019t grumble because I am very, very lucky,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen I\u2019m in the place I\u2019m in, I\u2019m absolutely happy. I\u2019ve never been somewhere and felt, \u2018why am I doing this?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Asked by Husain if Palin\u2019s feelings may have been exacerbated by his visits to \u201ctougher places\u201d that are traditionally \u201coff the tourist track\u201d, Palin said he may agree.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve coined [them] \u2018countries on the edge\u2019,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\u2019re countries where something has happened \u2013 usually something bad \u2013 and they\u2019re either recovering or they\u2019re about to face up to it. And that makes it much more intriguing. It\u2019s not just a place of entertainment.\u201d<\/p>\n Palin was speaking shortly before he was forced to pull out of a planned tour for his new book due to an injury<\/a>. On Tuesday (13 November), he announced on Instagram that a nationwide tour as well as \u201cany other events\u201d he had planned over the coming months had been cancelled.<\/p>\n \u201cMy accident was quite unsensational, a slip in the family bathroom where I\u2019ve walked for 58 years,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI fell heavily on my left side resulting in three fractured ribs and a minor pelvic fracture. The recovery of bone fractures takes a long time, especially when you\u2019re 83.\u201d<\/p>\n Ever jovial, Palin joked that it was \u201ca comedy fall with no audience there to see it\u201d.<\/p>\n A statement on Palin\u2019s official website stated that ticket holders would be contacted with rescheduled dates \u201cas soon as they are available\u201d.<\/p>\n Last year, Palin revealed that he and his film crew had been held at gunpoint while filming a travelogue in Venezuela<\/a> for Channel 5. He said that, in a \u201cbizarre\u201d turn of events, the guards eventually found his name online through a Google search while the crew was \u201cwaiting to hear our fate\u201d from SEBIN\u2019s headquarters in Caracas.<\/p>\n
