The semi-truck left the northbound lanes, jackknifed, and struck the median. The semi-truck then went into southbound traffic, striking a southbound transit bus carrying approximately 50 to 60 passengers and another sedan.

Surrey Police officers from across Surrey responded, as did multiple Surrey Fire Services firefighters. Numerous BCEHS resources responded, including one Air Ambulance. Due to the size of the collision scene and resulting traffic congestion, Delta Police Department officers, City of Surrey, Mainroad Traffic, and Ministry of Transportation and Transit staff also assisted for several hours.

BCEHS paramedics provided emergency medical care to a total of 13 people. Two people were transported to hospital in serious but stable condition, including one by Air Ambulance who has since been discharged from hospital. Eleven other people were transported by BCEHS to hospital in stable condition with less serious injuries.

Surrey Police said that, at this early stage, the cause of the collision remains under investigation.

“SPS is aware that several motorists and/or passengers in vehicles have shared dashcam footage with local media or posted the footage onto social media and are asking everyone who may have dashcam footage to please share it with Surrey Police Service so it can become part of the investigation,” Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said in a media release.

Anyone who has dashcam footage or witnessed the collision and has not yet shared the footage or spoken with SPS officers is asked to contact SPS’s non-emergency number at 604-599-0502 and quote file 26-111726 (SP).

Friday, 9:45 p.m.

Two people were taken to hospital in serious but stable condition, and 11 others with less serious injuries, after a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 99 in Surrey that involved a semi-truck, a double-decker transit bus and several vehicles on Friday evening (Oct. 16).

That’s the latest news from Surrey Police Service after several hours of highway closures following the accident near the Highway 99 interchange with Highway 91.

An evening update at 9:36 p.m. notes that BCEHS paramedics provided emergency medical care to a total of 13 people following the crash, which closed traffic in both directions on the highway for several hours. One person was transported to hospital by Air Ambulance.

As of 9:45 p.m., DriveBC is now reporting that traffic is moving again in both directions.

SPS said the investigation into the cause of the collision is still in the early stages, but it appears that the collision occurred after a semi-truck with trailer crossed into the southbound lanes.

Earlier: 7:30 and 9 p.m.

Surrey Police say no serious injuries have been reported in a major multi-vehicle crash that tied up traffic for hours on Highway 99.

One person was taken to hospital with minor injuries, Surrey Police reported in an email update at 7:32 p.m. Friday (Oct. 16).

The crash closed both the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 99, just east of the interchange with Highway 91. DriveBC is reporting shortly after 9 p.m. that the southbound lanes are now open, but northbound lanes remain closed.

The collision involved a semi truck and trailer, a double-decker transit bus and multiple vehicles. A Black Press freelancer on scene reported the involvement of several ambulances, including an Air Ambulance.

SPS is working with Surrey Fire Service, BCEHS, Delta Police and the City of Surrey to help manage traffic through the area and clear it safely.

The road is expected to remain closed for a few hours, SPS said at 7:30 p.m.

Earlier: 5:34 p.m.

Surrey Police on Friday afternoon, 5:34 p.m.: “Both the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 99, just east of the Highway 99 and Highway 91 interchange, are currently closed due to a multi-vehicle collision involving a semi truck and trailer, a bus, and several vehicles,” says Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton, SPS senior media relations officer, in an email to news outlets.

“The number and type of vehicles are unknown and I do not have information on the type of bus and whether it is carrying any passengers. At this time, it is unknown whether there are any serious injuries, but Surrey Fire Services and BCEHS paramedics are on scene.

“It is likely that parts of the highway will be closed for several hours as police investigate, gather evidence, and the scene is cleaned up.”

UPDATE: 13 injured in multi-vehicle Highway 99 crash with semi-truck, bus in Surrey Published 9:00 pm Friday, October…

[194299
49,48,87674
post-936876","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-surrey","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-surrey
["GET
