Although it\u2019s been\u00a0slightly\u00a0eclipsed<\/a> at the moment by his buddy Nathan Fielder\u2019s own forays<\/a> into the documentary form, we here at\u00a0The A.V. Club\u00a0have been pretty big fans of John Wilson\u2019s\u00a0The History Of Concrete<\/a>, which film editor Jacob Oller has described as a sort of feature-length expansion of Wilson\u2019s intentionally meandering, deliberately (and delightfully) digressive HBO show How To With John Wilson. And, like Fielder, it turns out that Wilson has also recently accepted an invitation to closely film a person huge swathes of the planet is fascinated by, and familiar with\u2014except that, instead of currently incarcerated Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, it\u2019s pop musician Harry Styles.<\/p>\n

This is per\u00a0Variety<\/a>, which reports that Wilson has apparently spent the last two months following Styles around with his ever-present camera, filming a future documentary that\u2019s possibly being set up for a theatrical release at Universal. Focused on Styles\u2019 current Madison Square Garden residency, sources say the film will blend concert footage with stuff that sounds significantly more Wilson-like, including \u201cauthentic human stories of everyone involved in the tour\u2014from the singer and his fans to countless others behind the scenes.\u201d Although nobody involved has confirmed anything, the existence of the project began being speculated about after fans recently caught a picture of Wilson following Styles around, camera in tow.<\/p>\n

This is, we\u2019re just going to go ahead and say it, a weird meeting of subject and filmmaker. It\u2019s not like Styles doesn\u2019t seem like a fairly nice and cool guy, or hard to imagine how he might have hit on the idea of hiring a hot indie filmmaker to make something more specific about him than the usual pop star fluff.
