{"id":938820,"date":"2026-10-19T12:50:11","date_gmt":"2026-10-19T12:50:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/938820\/"},"modified":"2026-10-19T12:50:11","modified_gmt":"2026-10-19T12:50:11","slug":"dallas-stars-gm-nill-expects-to-re-open-extension-talks-with-robertson-in-december","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/938820\/","title":{"rendered":"Dallas Stars GM Nill expects to re-open extension talks with Robertson in December"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/dallas-stars\/25\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/dallas-stars\/25\" target=\"_blank\">Dallas Stars<\/a> and forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/jason-robertson\/8480027\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/jason-robertson\/8480027\" target=\"_blank\">Jason Robertson<\/a> are getting set to try again on a long-term contract extension.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Stars general manager Jim Nill expects to re-open talks with Robertson in December after the two sides settled for a one-year, $12 million contract to avoid arbitration in July. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Robertson is eligible to sign a new contract as of Jan. 1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m going to wait until probably around the first of December,\u201d Nill told NHL.com on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t want any distraction. Just get off to a good start and I\u2019ll sit down with his representatives around the first of December, see if we can get something done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Dallas appeared to be ready to part ways with the winger in June before a potential trade with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/seattle-kraken\/55\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/seattle-kraken\/55\" target=\"_blank\">Seattle Kraken<\/a> fell apart when Robertson rejected an eight-year contract at a cap hit of roughly $15 million from the NHL\u2019s newest franchise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Nill said after Robertson re-signed on the one-year term that both sides were focused on reaching a long-term deal in the future. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Stars are set to be flush with cap space next summer, which could help conversations this time around. Dallas is currently set to have just under $35 million to spend, per PuckPedia, with eight roster spots to fill. Along with Robertson\u2019s new $12 million hit coming off the books, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/tyler-seguin\/8475794\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/tyler-seguin\/8475794\" target=\"_blank\">Tyler Seguin<\/a>\u2019s eight-year contract at a $9.85 million cap hit is set to expire. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The 27-year-old Robertson has three goals and seven points in eight games this season as the Stars have started 4-3-1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He led the Stars in scoring last season, recording 45 goals and 96 points in 82 games.
