Projet Montréal has filed an emergency motion to force Fady Dagher, the chief of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), to appear before city council in the next seven days.

The motion, filed Monday morning, comes after two police officers who work at Station 21 in downtown Montreal were suspended last week over alleged acts of humiliation directed at unhoused and racialized people.

One of the suspended officers allegedly urinated on unhoused people while in uniform.

2 SPVM officers suspended for alleged acts of humiliation aimed at marginalized groups

Montreal police are confirming that the two suspended officers are from Station 21, which covers downtown. The SPVM said in a statement that it has launched an internal investigation. The alleged acts include urinating on homeless people.

Earlier this year, four officers were suspended following an internal investigation into racism and misconduct at Station 39, in the Montréal-Nord borough.

Ericka Alneus, the leader of the Official Opposition, wrote in a press release that her party has serious questions for Dagher regarding the “organizational culture, internal oversight mechanisms, and the organization’s ability to prevent and correct behaviours that are contrary to our city’s values.”

Listen to this article Estimated 1 minute The audio version of this article is generated by AI-based technology.…

[194292
49,48,2338
post-939096","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-montreal","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-montreal
["GET
