A Republican congressional candidate in Texas who has repeatedly drawn controversy over his inflammatory remarks once described fantasizing about running over cyclists with his car \u2014 and suggested he could get away with it.<\/p>\n
Brandon Herrera<\/a>, a gun-rights activist and YouTube personality running in Texas\u2019 23rd Congressional District, made the disturbing remarks during a 2022 episode of the “Rekieta Law” podcast, according to a report Monday in MeidasTouch<\/a>.<\/p>\n Asked what triggered \u201cunreasonable bouts of anger,\u201d Herrera immediately singled out cyclists. <\/p>\n \u201cI f—–g hate cyclists,\u201d Herrera declared as he launched into a profanity-laced tirade about groups of bicyclists.<\/p>\n \u201cI just, like, I had f—–g fantasies of running them all over,\u201d Herrera said. \u201cAnd, you know, maybe one of these days I will. I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n The conversation took an even darker turn when the host, Nick Law, suggested motorists should be \u201clegally allowed to run over\u201d cyclists who fall behind their groups.<\/p>\n \u201cOh, buddy, I have thought about ways that I could get away with it,\u201d Herrera responded. \u201cI feel like I could have done it without going to jail, but I don’t.”<\/p>\n Herrera also made a disparaging reference to a cyclist being someone\u2019s \u201cmentally impaired uncle.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019d be doing them a favor,\u201d Law said in the disturbing exchange. <\/p>\n The resurfaced interview adds to a string of controversies surrounding Herrera, who has won over the endorsements of President Donald Trump<\/a> and House Speaker Mike Johnson<\/a>.<\/p>\n MeidasTouch previously reported on videos in which Herrera mocked people with Down syndrome and other disabilities and insulted a woman while filming herself driving.<\/p>\n Herrera is running against Democrat Katy Padilla Stout in the November election in the sprawling Texas border district vacated by the resignation of disgraced former Rep.
