Tell us who you can recognise (Example: Jo Siffert, Monza, 1970) and join in the guessing game for the honour of it – there are no prizes to be won. Send your answer to: mathias.brunner@speedweek.com. The photo shows a spin during practice, as evidenced by the sparsely filled grandstand at the Motodrom.

Kiesa, now 48 and from Copenhagen, became a multiple karting champion in the early 1990s – in Denmark and Scandinavia – and finished runner-up in the World Championship twice.

His entry into motor racing: third overall in 1998 in the highly competitive British Formula Ford, followed by the championship title a year later. This led to a move up to Formula 3, in which the Dane competed in Germany and the UK. From there, he moved on to Formula 3000 (equivalent to today’s Formula 2).

In 2003, he won the F3000 race in Monaco and signed a contract with Minardi for several Formula 1 races. However, there was nothing to be gained with the car from the iconic Italian team; 11th place at Indianapolis was Nicolas’s best result.

In 2005, Kiesa became a test driver for Jordan, but he did not make any further Grand Prix appearances. His racing career petered out with appearances in endurance racing and as an Audi driver in the DTM.

Nicolas Kiesa can still be seen in Formula 1 today, as a Grand Prix expert for his colleagues at Viaplay.

Mostly drawn from the archives of our photo partners XPB and Grand Prix Photo, every week from Tuesday…

[441
49,48,578,576,577,82
post-939632","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-formula-1","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-f1","tag-formula-1","tag-formula1","tag-sports
["GET
