\n\tChristina Applegate<\/a> returned to her podcast, \u201cMeSsy,\u201d on Tuesday with some shocking news: She was misdiagnosed with multiple sclerosis. <\/p>\n

\n\tAfter taking a break from the podcast for seven months due to her health, Applegate tearfully shared the revelation in a two-part episode, saying that new technology led to the discovery. \u201cThis may come as great news, but to me, I\u2019m back at square one,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s hard to say that [my doctor] came into my room and she said, \u2018Congratulations, you don\u2019t have MS.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tApplegate said that she was \u201cnot happy at all\u201d about the news. \u201cYou don\u2019t get misdiagnosed and then all of the sudden I\u2019m better. I haven\u2019t gotten better \u2026 If anything, I\u2019ve gotten worse in some ways,\u201d she said. \u201cSo I\u2019m back at square one, that I don\u2019t know what\u2019s going on with me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tApplegate originally revealed that she had been diagnosed with MS in 2021, and retired from acting after the finale of her hit series \u201cDead to Me\u201d the next year. Since then, she has become a fierce advocate for people with the disease \u2014 which causes damage to the central nervous system \u2014 and started the \u201cMeSsy\u201d podcast alongside \u201cThe Sopranos\u201d star Jamie-Lynn Sigler as a way to share her experience and spread awareness.<\/p>\n

\n\tDespite learning she had been misdiagnosed, Applegate said that her symptoms remain and her illness has now become a mystery. \u201cI have every symptom of someone with MS. Every single one,\u201d she said. \u201cNow, we both know that there are many things that mirror MS \u2014 many different things.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe added that \u201cthere\u2019s a pretty damn high number of misdiagnoses with MS,\u201d so this is not a rare occurrence. \u201cIt\u2019s clear now that they\u2019re finding something different,\u201d Applegate continued. \u201cSomething else is going on.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tApplegate added that \u201cit\u2019s weird because I feel like I let everybody down\u201d after becoming such a big advocate for the MS community. She said that she\u2019s still in a \u201cstate of shock,\u201d adding: \u201cIt\u2019s a mindfuck, for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s this weird feeling because I became this \u2014 you and I, the poster children for MS,\u201d she said. \u201cI had a reason. I had a fucking reason as to why my day sucked every day. And now I don\u2019t have a reason and it\u2019s very unnerving and it\u2019s really confusing for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the second part of the episode, Applegate got emotional thinking about the past five years, and how confused she feels now. \u201cI\u2019m still here feeling quite hollow and quite scared and sad. Now, I just feel lost,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve gone through a great depression because of it. But, you know, I lost everything. I lost my job,\u201d Applegate continued as she broke down in tears. \u201cGod, I\u2019m so sorry, I get really emotional because it stopped my life. I still have to use wheelchairs when I go to the doctor\u2019s office. I can\u2019t walk from the car to the room. I mean, I\u2019m still in this. Nothing magical happened when she said, \u2018You don\u2019t have MS.\u2019 Nothing magical happened.\u201d<\/p>\n
