Winnipeg police are on the lookout for a suspect in a reported knife incident in East Kildonan. <\/p>\n
\u201cSomething, I figured, was up, so I went to go find my keys and lock the (truck) door\u2026 the light didn\u2019t go out, so that meant the door was ajar,\u201d said the 47-year-old.<\/p>\n
\u201cI went outside, figuring, OK, maybe I left my doors unlocked and somebody\u2019s gone through the truck again.\u201d<\/p>\n
As he approached the truck, he saw the armed man rifling through his truck.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs I\u2019m telling him to get out, he\u2019s pushing the door, I\u2019m opening the door, and he came out with his knife, just stabbing, trying to stab me as much as he could,\u201d said Vance, who backed off and jumped over his fence, dropping his phone in the process, and picked up a propane tank to defend himself as the armed man threatened him.<\/p>\n
Vance threatened the man back, who took off running and soon disappeared, and followed to try to retrieve his phone. He later tracked it to the roof of a neighbour\u2019s garage.<\/p>\n
He said he found the encounter frustrating in a neighbourhood that he thought was largely safe.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe neighbourhood\u2019s just been phenomenal lately, until the last week or two, when I started hearing stories about this guy around,\u201d he said, adding many young families live in the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s scary to think people like that, with no regard for life whatsoever, are out there.\u201d<\/p>\n
He urged others who find themselves in similar situations not to approach suspects.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet police do their work, that\u2019s why we pay them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Investigators are on the lookout for the suspect in that incident and others in the neighbourhood that may be connected, WPS spokesman Const. Claude Chancy said.<\/p>\n
