A shark that became a viral sensation after getting stuck in a South Korean canal for a month has returned just hours after being coaxed out to sea.<\/p>\n
Nicknamed Bukang-i by fans, the 3-metre-long (9.8-foot) female dusky shark<\/a> <\/a>was first spotted<\/a> in the waterway on 18 September.<\/p>\n On Wednesday, workers used nets fixed to floating pontoons to guide the shark free, but it dived beneath a net and returned to the canal in Busan overnight, authorities said.<\/p>\n \u201cThe shark is now between the outer net and an inner net installed 30 to 40 metres … further inside the canal,\u201d an oceans ministry official told AFP.<\/p>\n After it got trapped in September, officials initially opted to wait for the shark to leave on its own \u2013 but amid growing concerns for its wellbeing they took a more proactive approach. A fresh attempt to free Bukang-i was under way on Thursday morning, officials said.<\/p>\n Officials spent Thursday morning removing a screen that was potentially blocking the shark\u2019s exit, replacing the net it had swum under and raising an outer barrier, before attempting to guide Bukang-i out again.<\/p>\n Before Wednesday\u2019s effort, authorities had twice tried and failed to steer Bukang-i back to sea, using water jets and then nets.<\/p>\n
