Quebec country singer Matt Lang is set to celebrate the release of his fourth studio album, Ain\u2019t That Bad, with a sold-out show at Montreal\u2019s MTELUS on Friday.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m super happy to play in Montreal. We\u2019re going to have a lot of fun,\u201d Lang said.<\/p>\n

One night, one story<\/p>\n
The album follows a continuous storyline told through a series of cinematic music videos inspired by the chaos of one big night out. Each video serves as another chapter in the same night.<\/p>\n
Lang credits his collaborators, Vicky and Jo\u00eblle, with coming up with the idea of creating a movie-trailer-style video for every song. He recalled receiving their pitch after they had been drinking, and deciding to give the unconventional idea a chance, even after they reconsidered it.<\/p>\n
Although the album centres on a night of partying, Lang said the concept was about creating something entertaining that audiences could follow from one video to the next.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not the same thing as hangover, but sometimes when you have a hard night and you have a huge party, it\u2019s just fun. And you have one night with us on the concept,\u201d Lang said.<\/p>\n
For Lang, the project represents a new creative challenge.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe worked hard on Ain\u2019t That Bad, and you know, that was a huge thing, because all the concept and all the videos, all the cinematic stuff around the project, it\u2019s huge, and we never did that before too, so for me it means a lot,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
A personal song behind the party<\/p>\n
Away from the album\u2019s upbeat atmosphere, one track carries a more emotional meaning.<\/p>\n
Lang said \u201cToday\u2019s That Tomorrow\u201d was written with his late mother in mind. <\/p>\n
\u201cThat was for my mom first, you know, like I was thinking about her. She passed away one year and a half ago, and that was, you know, a hard time for me. And I was like, would be great to have something like that on this album because, like, if we\u2019re, for one song, go out of the concept and just, you know, tell the truth that what I\u2019m feeling right now. And back in the days and also for the future, it\u2019s important to me. So that\u2019s why I say, \u2018Today\u2019s That Tomorrow.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Montreal first, then beyond Quebec<\/p>\n
For Lang, launching the album in Montreal is an important milestone before taking the project to audiences outside Quebec and Canada.<\/p>\n
He said the sold-out show is particularly meaningful because he wanted to introduce the album in Quebec before bringing it to international audiences.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s one of the biggest venue in Montreal. And it sold out. So that was super important to me to play in Montreal first and then after that we can go in everywhere we want to go. It\u2019s important to me to do it first in Quebec and then after that we can do it out of Quebec and also out of Canada,\u201d Lang said.<\/p>\n

Lang said plans included performances in Ireland, Scotland, the United Kingdom and Germany.<\/p>\n
He is also preparing a larger stage production than the band has put on before. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a huge party\u2026we never did a show like that. You know, like it\u2019s a big show, lots of pyro, lots of everything,\u201d Lang said.<\/p>\n
Giving credit to the team<\/p>\n
As he prepares to release Ain\u2019t That Bad, Lang said he wants fans to focus less on a particular message and more on enjoying the experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cHey guys, have fun. This is going to be a great night,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
