The company received $92,000 in fines, with Khan fined $30,000 and placed on probation.

The ESA’s investigation uncovered Aya Electric had obtained permits for electrical work at six residential properties located in Clarington, Brantford, Milton, and Markham, Ont. Khan collected payments for these permits while an unlicensed contractor not employed by Aya Electric and lacking electrical qualifications, insurance, or supervision, carried out the work.

Investigators also observed Khan performing electrical work at a seventh home in Brantford, Ont. alongside two unlicensed electric contractors, with no permit obtained from the ESA for the job.

Following the investigation, Aya Electric and Khan pled guilty to these offences in September 2026. The ESA is currently reviewing the matter and considering whether further administrative action is warranted.

“We help licence holders meet their responsibilities, but when those responsibilities are deliberately ignored, we will act,” said Emily Larose, president of Regulatory and General Counsel for the ESA. “These fines send a strong message that profiting from arrangements that put public safety at risk carries serious consequences.”

Reports regarding suspected unlicensed electrical work, or a Licensed Electrical Contractor failing to meet their responsibilities, can be submitted online to the ESA.

Aya Electric and its owner fined a combined $122,000.
