Galerie Patrick Seguin<\/a> in Paris has brought a 1944 house by architect Jean Prouv\u00e9<\/a> to Design Miami.Paris, where it was reinterpreted as a Japanese pavilion.<\/p>\n

The 6\u00d76 Demountable House was designed in the 1940s to be assembled at speed and function as housing for those who had been made homeless by war.<\/p>\n

It is currently for sale via Galerie Patrick Seguin<\/a> and on show in the gardens of the H\u00f4tel de Maisons during Design Miami.Paris.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis house was designed at the end of the second world war to provide temporary accommodation for displaced families whilst their homes were being rebuilt,\u201d the gallery\u2019s founder Patrick Seguin told Dezeen.<\/p>\n

\u201cIts exposed structure showcases all of Prouv\u00e9\u2019s ingenuity; he was able to respond to the urgency of post-war reconstruction with a design that could be assembled in a single day,\u201d Seguin continued.<\/p>\n

For Design Miami.Paris, the gallery reimagined its interior as a contemporary chashitsu \u2013 a traditional Japanese pavilion used for tea ceremonies.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis new reading creates a dialogue between Prouv\u00e9\u2019s architecture and Japanese aesthetics and reflects the close ties he maintained throughout his life with Japan, where he was invited to give lectures on several occasions,\u201d Seguin said. <\/p>\n

\u201cJapanese architect Reiko Hayama was also one of his closest collaborators, joining his atelier\u00a0in the early 1970s.\u201d<\/p>\n

Because it had been designed to be demountable, taking the wooden house to Paris for the show was easy, according to the gallery.<\/p>\n

\u201cProuv\u00e9 designed the houses to be easily assembled and dismantled; that\u2019s the ingenuity of these structures,\u201d Seguin said. \u201cThe 6\u00d76 house only requires a single day to be assembled by three people.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the end of Design Miami.Paris, the Prouv\u00e9 house \u201cwill no doubt be moved to its new owner\u2019s home,\u201d the gallerist concluded.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s edition of Design Miami.Paris also saw Apple unveil its Designers of Tomorrow<\/a>.<\/p>\n
