Chrissy Yendell’s artwork will soon make its debut on one of the world’s biggest stages.<\/p>\n
Beginning on Oct. 27, her art will be featured on a digital display at Times Square in New York City for a 24-hour period as part of an international exhibition.<\/p>\n
Yendell says she submitted her work for consideration after coming across a call for artists inviting submissions for the public art event.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a contemporary artist based in northern Ontario, I\u2019m continually seeking opportunities to share my work with broader audiences,\u201d Yendell told SooToday.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving my artwork displayed in such an iconic international location is an incredible milestone in my artistic career.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s especially rewarding to see work created here in Sault Ste. Marie reaching audiences beyond Canada.\u201d<\/p>\n
Yendell describes her work as being rooted in abstract expressionism, often incorporating \u201cfigurative elements, particularly the female form.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m drawn to the relationship between colour, memory, identity, motherhood and the passage of time,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy paintings are often large-scale, layered, and expressive, allowing emotion and movement to guide the composition.\u201d<\/p>\n
Yendell\u2019s New York City debut, however, won\u2019t be the only opportunity for her work\u00a0to be seen abroad.<\/p>\n
For two days beginning on Nov. 28, her art will be featured on a 25-metre LED tunnel in the heart of Florence, Italy as part of ExpoMetro \u2014 an event billed as one of the world\u2019s most immersive public art exhibitions.<\/p>\n
Her work will be accompanied by a QR code, allowing viewers to connect directly with Yendell through her website to\u00a0learn more about her art.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat I find particularly exciting about these international exhibitions is the opportunity to bring contemporary art into unexpected public spaces, making it accessible to people who might not otherwise encounter it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Yendell also plans to highlight the work of other artists from across northern Ontario through her own art exhibition in the near future.<\/p>\n
In May, she will launch Studio Superior North<\/a>, a large-scale, juried contemporary art exhibition taking\u00a0place at The Machine Shop.\u00a0<\/p>\n Yendell says the goal of the local event is to bring together both emerging and established artists representing a wide range of artistic disciplines \u2014 including painting, sculpture, photography, textile arts, performance and film.<\/p>\n \u201cUltimately, I would love to see Studio Superior North grow into a recognizable platform for contemporary art in northern Ontario, with opportunities that continue well beyond this first exhibition,\u201d Yendell said.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Yendell\u2019s contribution to the Times Square exhibition will be promoted through a livestream of the event, which will enable people\u00a0in Sault Ste.
