<\/p>\nMajor sewer work on a main street in Mississauga\u2019s east end is expected to impact traffic while the job is being completed, Peel Region officials say.<\/p>\n
The region said in a project update this week it\u2019s rehabilitating the sanitary sewer along Ponytrail Drive, a major neighbourhood road that runs between Bloor Street and Burnhamthorpe Road East, east of Fieldgate Drive.<\/p>\n
Work got underway this week and will continue into November. Timelines may change due to weather and other unexpected events.<\/p>\n
\u201cSanitary sewers are underground pipes that carry wastewater from your home to a water resource recovery facility. Wastewater is created when water goes down a drain or toilet,\u201d project officials said in a notice to area residents and businesses. \u201cWe\u2019ll clean the sewer pipe and place a new resin (plastic) lining inside to extend its life. This work will be completed underground and will not require digging trenches in the neighbourhood.\u201d<\/p>\n
The work is being completed by Capital Sewer Services Inc. under contract to Peel Region.<\/p>\n
Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday, the region noted.<\/p>\n

During the work period, project leaders say they may need to temporarily reduce traffic to a single lane on the busy street.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf this is needed, we will place signs giving directions. During this time, traffic will be directed by flag persons,\u201d the region said in its update, adding \u201con-street parking will be reduced when we are working on the street.\u201d<\/p>\n
Area residents and businesses can also expect some wastewater service interruptions in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour wastewater service pipe may be out of service for approximately eight hours,\u201d officials said, adding wastewater service pipes carry wastewater from homes to the sanitary sewer. \u201cThis interruption allows the pipe to be repaired without digging trenches. If a service interruption is required, a second notice with a date and time will be provided at least 24 hours in advance.\u201d<\/p>\n
During the service interruptions, people may smell odours, which will go away within a few hours, the region said.<\/p>\n
