Eby promises Langley long-term care facility

NDP leader David Eby said the 300-bed long-term care facility his government promised Langley before the last election would be built if he’s re-elected.

Eby met with Langley-Willowbrook NPD candidate Andrew Mercier and Langley-Walnut Grove’s hopeful Holly Isaac on Friday, Oct. 23, in Langley City, visiting several local stores and chatting with people on the street in the final hours before the provincial election.

Asked about the promised local facility, which was to be built on the grounds of Langley Memorial Hospital, Eby said there had been challenges in bringing down the per-bed cost of that planned facility and a number of others.

The province was working to drive down the cost via standardization, he said.

“Shovels will be in the ground on this and seven other long-term care facilities,” Eby said.

He also acknowledged the need for more hospital services in the fast growing South of the Fraser region.

“We need more health-care professionals and health-care services,” Eby said, arguing that the NDP’s plan would be fully funded, while alleging that the B.C. Conservatives would cut health services.

The Conservatives have promised to protect health-care funding, recruit more doctors and nurses, and cut wait times.

On another local issue, Mercier said that the NDP is promising a second Urgent Primary Care facility for Langley.

The first local UPC opened in May 2024. They’re intended to take some pressure off overburdened hospital emergency rooms.

Eby said that the funding for a new UPC could also be applied to a community health centre, a model in which towns and cities can have their own building with similar services and some municipal control.

The visit to Langley came on the final day of the campaign before the general election on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Eby promises Langley long-term care facility Published 5:16 pm Friday, October 23, 2026 NDP leader David Eby said…

[194299
49,48,87674
post-944542","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-surrey","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-surrey
["GET
