<\/p>\nGO Transit riders are being warned to plan ahead this weekend as a major construction closure shuts down train service on a large portion of the Lakeshore West line.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, Oct. 24 and Sunday, Oct. 25, there will be no GO train service between Aldershot GO and Union Station due to planned construction.<\/p>\n
GO trains will continue to operate between Niagara Falls and Aldershot GO, while GO buses will run between West Harbour GO and Union Station Bus Terminal.<\/p>\n
The disruption means there will be no GO Transit service at Appleby, Bronte, Port Credit, Long Branch, Mimico or Exhibition GO stations during the weekend closure.<\/p>\n
Passengers who normally use those stations will need to use local transit systems, including Burlington Transit, Oakville Transit, MiWay and the TTC, to connect with available GO services.<\/p>\n
For passengers travelling east from Appleby GO, GO recommends taking Oakville Transit Route 14A to Oakville GO and connecting with GO bus service to Union Station Bus Terminal. The trip is expected to take about one hour and 52 minutes.<\/p>\n

From Bronte GO, passengers can take Oakville Transit Route 18 to Oakville GO and connect with a GO bus to Union Station Bus Terminal. The estimated travel time is one hour and 21 minutes.<\/p>\n
Passengers travelling east from Port Credit GO can take MiWay Route 2 and connect with GO bus Route 21 to Union Station Bus Terminal. That trip is expected to take about one hour and 32 minutes.<\/p>\n
From Long Branch GO, passengers heading downtown can take TTC bus Route 110A to Islington Station, take Line 2 to St. George Station and transfer to Line 1 southbound to Union Station. The estimated travel time is one hour and eight minutes.<\/p>\n

Passengers at Mimico GO can take TTC bus Route 76 to Royal York Station, followed by Line 2 to St. George and Line 1 south to Union Station. GO estimates that trip at about 55 minutes.<\/p>\n
From Exhibition GO, passengers can take the TTC 509 streetcar to Union Station, with an estimated travel time of 29 minutes.<\/p>\n
Passengers travelling toward Hamilton should also expect a 15- to 25-minute connection time between replacement bus trips and regular Route 18 bus trips at Aldershot GO.<\/p>\n
There are also several late-evening service adjustments on Friday, Oct. 23.<\/p>\n
The 11:24 p.m. train from West Harbour GO to Union Station, the 11:47 p.m. and 12:47 a.m. trains from Union Station to West Harbour GO, and the 12:17 a.m. train from Union Station to Aldershot GO will not operate.<\/p>\n
GO bus routes 18N and 18P will be available at Oakville GO, making all stops to Aldershot and West Harbour GO.<\/p>\n
There is an additional closure affecting Long Branch GO. The station will have no pedestrian or station access from 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23 until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, and the parking lot will also be closed due to construction.<\/p>\n
GO recommends Long Branch passengers use Port Credit GO, approximately a seven-minute drive away, or Mimico GO, approximately a six-minute drive away.<\/p>\n
Passengers travelling between Niagara Falls and Confederation GO should also plan for longer trips. Trains are required to operate at reduced speeds due to ongoing track conditions.<\/p>\n
Metrolinx says crews will use the weekend closure to conduct construction and necessary maintenance aimed at supporting faster and more frequent service on the Lakeshore West line.<\/p>\n
The broader Lakeshore West GO Expansion is expected to eventually provide service every 15 minutes or better throughout the day between Toronto and Burlington, along with hourly service to and from Hamilton seven days a week.<\/p>\n
Passengers are encouraged to check their schedules before travelling, as construction work can be adjusted, rescheduled or extended due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.<\/p>\n
