Dave Grohl<\/a> has never been known for someone that has been petty or bitter about much in his life. <\/p>\n He has spent his entire time in the spotlight trying to be one of the single most likeable people on the face of the Earth, and if he has a problem with someone, he normally tends to keep that to himself unless they make things too personal. But even though there were many options for him to take the high road over the years, his relationship with Courtney Love has always been more than a little bit turbulent<\/a>, to say the least.<\/p>\n The former Nirvana drummer was already hesitant about what was going on with Love when she was by Kurt Cobain\u2019s side for the final years of the band\u2019s tenure, but it wasn\u2019t like Love was out to hurt anyone or anything. She was only in love with Cobain, and while conspiracy theorists can get way too out of hand when placing blame on her for her husband\u2019s demise, Grohl didn\u2019t think that she was completely off the hook, either.<\/p>\n Love had no problem declaring herself the Yoko Ono of her generation thanks to her relationship with Cobain, but there was a lot more to it than that. The media had turned into a circus around the pair of them, and while Grohl had to watch all of that happen from afar most of the time, he did feel like there were a lot of pent-up feelings when going over some of the final recordings that Nirvana were working on.<\/p>\n If that was in the past, though, Grohl did have a few lines in mind when looking at the future of Foo Fighters. He didn\u2019t anticipate the band turning into one of the biggest rock bands on the planet when he made the cassette of their first record<\/a>, but when you listen to some of the lyrics, Grohl clearly had it in for someone that focused on their \u201crehearsed insanity\u201d and how the powers that be will \u201ccome back and knock [her] down\u201d when they realise who she really is.<\/p>\n Grohl seemed to be tight-lipped on the matter for years, but in 2009, he did end up confessing to the song being about Love, saying,<\/a> \u201cI\u2019ve denied it for 15 years, but I\u2019m finally coming out and saying it. Just read the fucking words!\u201d That\u2019s about as close to an admission as we\u2019re going to get, but what\u2019s even crazier is seeing the kind of moves that Love tried to pull in the next few years following what Grohl said about her.<\/p>\n Aside from hating Foo Fighters\u2019 music, she would occasionally launch veiled attacks at Grohl in the press, including one where she accused Grohl of hitting on her daughter, Frances Bean Cobain. While these were serious allegations that would have needed to be followed up on, it only took a couple of days before Frances came forward to clear the air, eventually saying<\/a>, \u201cWhile I\u2019m generally silent on my biological mother, her recent tirade has taken a gross turn. I have never been approached by Dave Grohl in more than a platonic way. I\u2019m in a monogamous relationship and very happy.\u201d<\/p>\n Further reading: From The Vault<\/p>\n So, in a sense, \u2018I\u2019ll Stick Around\u2019 seemed to be even more relevant decades after it came out. Grohl might have seen a lot of these moves happening in the background, but it becoming one of the band\u2019s most beloved deep cuts probably makes the wounds sting just a little bit whenever he thinks about the kind of turmoil that he had to go through when dealing with the death of one of his best friends.<\/a><\/p>\n It\u2019s not fair to see Love being dragged through the mud for doing heinous things that she wasn\u2019t even responsible for, but if she and Grohl could find it in their hearts to make up for Nirvana\u2019s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, anything was possible. All of those years of swiping may have been a bit harsh, but Grohl can look at all of those issues like water under the bridge whenever he plays \u2018I\u2019ll Stick Around\u2019 these days. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
