Traps were set in the area, and on Tuesday, the wolf believed to have been involved in the attack was captured. It was euthanized and taken to Prairie Diagnostic Services in Saskatoon for a necropsy.

An investigation is being conducted by the Saskatchewan Conservation Officer Service’s Wildlife Human Attack Response Team.

In the statement, the ministry said, “While wolf attacks are rare, the Conservation Officer Service takes incidents involving public safety very seriously.”

“Wolves are common in Saskatchewan’s forested regions and generally avoid human contact.”

The ministry also advised: “People travelling, working or recreating in areas where wolves may be present should avoid attracting wildlife with food or garbage, remain aware of their surroundings and never approach or feed wolves.”

“If you encounter a wolf, do not run or turn your back on it. Face the animal, make yourself appear large and slowly back away while giving the wolf space to leave the area.”

Anyone who sees a wolf exhibiting aggressive or unusual behaviour should report it to Turn In Poachers and Polluters. In an emergency, or if there is a threat to public safety, call 911.

A person in northern Saskatchewan is recovering from injuries sustained during a wolf attack on Saturday, Oct. 17.…

[26
49,48,66,323
post-945512","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-wildlife","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-science","tag-wildlife
["GET
