After comfortably securing his third consecutive term as Brampton’s mayor, Patrick Brown says he’s excited to have a united council that will prioritize infrastructure and recreation projects, and focus on public safety. <\/p>\n

Other orders of business for Brown include tackling affordability challenges and advocating for more front-line police officers and modern police facilities to crack down on extortion, auto theft and repeat offenders.<\/p>\n
Brown previously served as leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party from 2015 to 2018 and as the federal MP for Barrie from 2006 to 2015.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘A completely united council’<\/p>\n
Brown said council was “divided” in his previous terms in 2018 and 2022 and he believes that will change in this new term. Most incumbent councillors have returned to their positions, with the exception of new councillors, Taran Chahal, a former city staffer who will represent the city’s east, and Sukhman Sangha in northeast Brampton. <\/p>\n
Both Sangha and Chahal received endorsements from the incumbent mayor. <\/p>\n
“Now we have a completely united council, we won every council seat and so there is an alignment that I think is going to create a Brampton advantage,” said Brown. <\/p>\n
“It’s sort of like a canoe. If you’re paddling different directions, it creates dysfunction and for too long, Brampton was plagued by dysfunction. I think right now we’re continuing to build on a sense of unity, collaboration.”<\/p>\n

Calling Tedjo an “affable and pragmatic” friend of his, Brown said the two share their support for more front-line police in their communities \u2014 a stark contrast from Tedjo’s predecessor, Carolyn Parrish, who resigned<\/a> from the Peel Police Services Board in 2024 after refusing to support a budget increase. <\/p>\n “Where I think there was conflict in the past, was we had an outgoing Mississauga mayor that literally voted against the police on every instance, wanted less frontline policing.
