Milton Revolution Racing<\/a> rider saved her energy and waited for the right moment to sprint. Her chance came when another rider made a move that she had noticed during the qualifying round.<\/p>\n\u201cThe strategy was to take easy laps,\u201d she said. \u201cI saw the Swedish girl attempt to take a lap in the qualifier, so when she went in the final I joined in and we worked together to get sprint and lap points.\u201d<\/p>\n
And that she did. \u201cFrom there I sat in and sprinted for double points at the end,\u201d she said.
The plan worked beautifully, with the Canadian taking an emotional win.<\/p>\n
Starting racing track early<\/p>\n
She started riding the boards at a young age on the very tight and fast Forest City Velodrome. \u201cFCV\u2019s where I started track racing. And just the community that\u2019s been built from FCV really helped. Attack Racing helped. They really bring the community together,\u201d Buczkowski said. \u201cIf the FCV wasn\u2019t there, I don\u2019t think I would be a cyclist today.\u201d<\/p>\n
Her dad and his group of friends were all coaches or parents of kids on Attack Racing, she said. \u201c<\/p>\n
They were always at the velodrome. So my dad\u2019s like, \u2018Hey, this is something you can do. You can try it out. I ride my bike, you should ride your bike, so then I have a partner.\u2019 Then we\u2019d go out for ice cream,\u201d Buczkowski said. (Sounds like a great day tbh.)<\/p>\n
She was still in disbelief the next day. \u00a0\u201cI just cannot fathom the thought that I am a world champion,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Well, she must believe it now.
