Takomo has made waves in the golf equipment space since its inception in 2021 by making high quality clubs and keeping prices low with a direct to consumer model.\u00a0 The Finland-based company is branching out into putters for the first time after acquiring another Finnish golf brand, Otso Golf Ltd., a company specializing in low torque putters.\u00a0 The Takomo Lumo M1 is a rounded mid mallet designed to keep the face square in the backswing and through impact.\u00a0 This was my first experience testing anything from Takomo (check out Nate\u2019s review of the Takomo Ignis D2 Fairway Wood HERE<\/a>).\u00a0 Read on to find out how it worked for me.<\/p>\n Looks<\/p>\n At address, the Takomo Lumo M1 putter is strange looking.\u00a0 It features a traditional and familiar head shape with a completely untraditional and foreign looking hosel placement.\u00a0 It isn\u2019t set up like a typical \u201czero torque\u201d putter nor like a face balanced mallet, hence the \u201clow torque\u201d signifier.\u00a0 While its single bend shaft is standard enough, its entry point into the putter head further towards the center and behind the face makes it look unique.\u00a0 At first, I found it a bit jarring and uncomfortable to look at.\u00a0 Like anything else, I got more comfortable with it over time.<\/p>\n The Takomo Lumo M1 putter features the same rounded mid-mallet head shape as Otso Golf\u2019s first putter, the D1.\u00a0 From what I can tell, the D1 was released in limited quantities shortly before the company was acquired by Takomo, so it\u2019s tough to compare directly, but it looks like the exact same shape.\u00a0 It\u2019s a head shape that looks like it wants to be swung on some sort of arc, but the low torque hosel configuration absolutely wants to prevent that and keep the face dead square all the way back and through.\u00a0 It\u2019s an interesting combination.<\/p>\n The Lumo M1 putter has a clean, minimalist look, with a matching black\/deep matte gray color scheme.\u00a0 The branding on the sole and the back of the club are subtle and minimal as well.\u00a0 The whole package appears very modern, sleek, and understated.\u00a0 The putter is also available in a chrome finish. [See Price \/ Buy<\/a>]<\/p>\n Sound & Feel<\/p>\n The Takomo Lumo M1 feels firm off the face.\u00a0 The sound is a low-pitched \u2018knock\u2019 to match.\u00a0 Without being too critical, it isn\u2019t among the most pleasurable sounding and feeling putters I\u2019ve tested.\u00a0 \u00a0There is very little mass behind the ball at impact, with just maybe 1\/4\u2033 or so of material behind the horizontally milled face grooves.\u00a0 This gives it a very old school feel off the face.<\/p>\n It is CNC milled from 100% 303 stainless steel, a material often used in milled putters.\u00a0 The relative lack of mass behind the ball coupled with its one piece steel construction results in that firm feel and moderate feedback through the hands at impact.\u00a0 For better or worse, you will get a good sense of where the ball was struck on the face.<\/p>\n Performance<\/p>\n After my testing, I find it hard to argue too much with the results of the Takomo Lumo M1 putter.\u00a0 While it does look funny to my eye, and its sound and feel don\u2019t match my preferences, I can\u2019t say that it doesn\u2019t do what it says it does on the greens.\u00a0 The face does everything it can to stay square going back and through, even if the club head looks like it would prefer to swing on an arc.\u00a0 Trusting it and leaning into that straight back and through stroke is key with this putter.<\/p>\n Given that the putter is so different from what I typically game, I was surprised how decent the results were.\u00a0 Speed control was solid on both slow and moderately quick greens.\u00a0 Short putts were holed with average or above average regularity, for me.\u00a0 The quality and consistency of the forward roll of the golf ball was very good.\u00a0 In the end, it isn\u2019t what I want to see looking down at the ball, and that\u2019s a huge part of the equation for me, but I think the technology in the Takomo Lumo M1 is interesting and unique, and it works well.<\/p>\n Who might be the ideal player suited to the Takomo Lumo M1 putter?\u00a0 I think of a player who has typically played a blade, maybe one who hasn\u2019t upgraded putters in a while and is intrigued by the emergence of low- and zero-torque technology in the market and wants to give one a try.\u00a0 Then there\u2019s a separate category of Takomo loyalists who already game their clubs through the rest of the bag and will be eager to pick one up just to see how it is. [See Price \/ Buy<\/a>]<\/p>\n Conclusion<\/p>\n The Takomo Lumo M1 putter is a solid entry into the putter market for Takomo.\u00a0 The low torque configuration differentiates itself from other putters on the market with its old school\/new school combination.\u00a0 Priced at $219 for the silver finish and $239 for black, Takomo continues to offer quality clubs at prices well below those of the big name brands.
