That said, his previous two campaigns featured Cy Young awards, and this one showed similar dominance (<a class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-inherit MuiLink-root MuiLink-underlineAlways MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__ui__link__medium_strong mui-mlpnpn\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/skubata01.shtml#all_players_standard_pitching\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">2.51 FIP<\/a> this year; 2.45 and 2.49 in 2025 and 2024, respectively).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium mui-m06sf4\">He&#8217;ll send this market in a frenzy. Every big-spender\u2014starting with the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets\u2014will at least weigh making a bid, and surprise suitors could surface, too. That said, cold water is already getting dumped on the idea of Skubal heading back to the Detroit Tigers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium mui-m06sf4\">&#8220;It&#8217;s probably too early to handicap this as Mets versus Dodgers,&#8221; ESPN&#8217;s <a class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-inherit MuiLink-root MuiLink-underlineAlways MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__ui__link__medium_strong mui-mlpnpn\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/story\/_\/id\/50298871\/free-agency-tarik-skubal-dodgers-mets-contract\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Alden Gonzalez<\/a> wrote. &#8220;&#8230; Others will surely step up\u2014though it seems highly unlikely that the Tigers, who never made an extension offer Skubal&#8217;s side deemed competitive, will be among them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium mui-m06sf4\">While that would have been a fun way for this story to end, it never felt too feasible.
