Managing high blood pressure isn’t always as simple as taking one medication. In fact, Harvard Health<\/a> reports that up to 30% of people with high blood pressure need three different drugs to help keep it under control.<\/p>\n

One such medication combines olmesartan and amlodipine<\/a>\u2014which help relax blood vessels\u2014with hydrochlorothiazide<\/a>, a diuretic that helps the body eliminate excess salt and water.<\/p>\n

Now, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is reporting a nationwide recall of this three-in-one blood pressure medication because of a quality issue.<\/p>\n

Recall details<\/p>\n

Macleods Pharma USA, Inc., is recalling 3,744 bottles of blood pressure medication nationwide over “failed dissolution specifications,” likely meaning the tablets didn’t dissolve as expected during testing. This could affect how the body absorbs the medication.<\/p>\n

In an October 26 report, the FDA classified the recall<\/a> as Class II, meaning the agency defines<\/a> it as a drug that “may cause temporary health consequences, but the probability of a serious health issue is remote.”<\/p>\n

To identify the affected pills, the FDA report provides the following details:<\/p>\n

Olmesartan Medoxomil, Amlodipine, and Hydrochlorothiazide Tablets (40 mg\/10 mg\/12.5 mg), 30-count bottle<\/p>\n

Expiration date: 05\/31\/2027<\/p>\n

This is also the latest in a series of blood pressure medication recalls reported in recent months. In September, a recall involved 13,000 bottles<\/a> of chlorthalidone, while an October recall affected more than 21,000 bottles<\/a> of a separate combination blood pressure pill.<\/p>\n

Macleods Pharma has not issued a press release or specific consumer instructions regarding the recall. However, the FDA notes<\/a> that people can generally continue taking medications affected by Class II recalls, though patients should always check with their doctor or pharmacist for guidance first.<\/p>\n
