{"id":951565,"date":"2026-10-30T06:20:22","date_gmt":"2026-10-30T06:20:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/951565\/"},"modified":"2026-10-30T06:20:22","modified_gmt":"2026-10-30T06:20:22","slug":"houston-comets-streak-back-into-wnba-with-launch-of-new-logos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/951565\/","title":{"rendered":"Houston Comets Streak Back Into WNBA With Launch of New Logos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/featured-1200x800-20261029-wnba-womens-national-basketball-association-houston-comets-logo-primary-g.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-103101\"  \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportslogos.net\/teams\/list_by_league\/16\/Womens-National-Basketball-Association-Logos\/WNBA-Logos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Women\u2019s National Basketball Association<\/a>\u2018s original franchises is streaking back into the league with the launch of the new logos they\u2019ll use when they take the court next year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportslogos.net\/logos\/list_by_team\/307\/Houston-Comets-Logos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Houston Comets<\/a> unveiled the logos during an event at POST Houston in the city\u2019s downtown on Thursday, October 29, along with a color palette of red, navy blue and silver.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The primary icon features a navy blue H slanting upward with a red basketball comet streaking across to form the bridge. The four large stars within the H represent the four WNBA championships won by the previous incarnation of the Comets. Three of the stars are silver, while the sole white star represents the state of Texas \u2014 the \u201cLone Star State.\u201d The whole logo has white and red outlines<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The global icon, meanwhile, places the comet-H atop a red roundel with a white inline, which the team says is inspired by space mission patches. \u201cHOUSTON\u201d is written around the top half and \u201cCOMETS\u201d around the bottom half.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The team also released two wordmarks on Thursday, one reading \u201cHOUSTON\u201d and one reading \u201cCOMETS,\u201d and both with a basketball comet streaking into an O. Both also feature a lowercase T, which the team says \u201cis a tie to the shared history of the Houston Rockets and the Houston Comets.\u201d The typography is \u201ccosmic-inspired\u201d and reflects \u201ca bold and modern identity embodying exploration, ambition and the drive to reach higher.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sportslogos.net\/2026\/03\/30\/comets-could-come-back-into-wnba-orbit-with-sale-relocation-of-connecticut-sun-to-houston\/basketball\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The Comets returned to Houston in March 2026<\/a> when the Fertitta family, owners of the NBA\u2019s Houston Rockets, purchased the Connecticut Sun and relocated them to the Toyota Center in Houston. The team stated their intent to revive the Comets name along with the relocation announcement, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sportslogos.net\/2026\/04\/27\/plans-to-revive-wnbas-houston-comets-in-jeopardy-due-to-trademark-issues\/basketball\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">despite a trademark filing for the name by a company associated with rapper Travis Scott<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The original Houston Comets played in the WNBA from 1997 to 2008. The team won four straight WNBA championships from 1997 to 2000, but were disbanded in 2008 when owner Hilton Koch put the team up for sale and no investors stepped up to take over.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"545\" height=\"251\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/houston-comets-primary-logo-20250814-WNBA-womens-national-basketball-association-connecticut-sun-sal.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-91093\"  \/>SportsLogos.net files<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jerseys were not unveiled alongside the logos on Thursday, but the team has given a small hint to what they\u2019ll look like via <a href=\"https:\/\/comets.wnba.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">their website<\/a>.
