The British actor, who turned 80 in July,<\/a> said she is left \u201dreally annoyed\u201d by people who call her \u201csweet\u201d because she is older.<\/p>\n Prime Suspect actor Mirren said she typically gets this response<\/a> when she\u2019s having a walk with her husband, the Ray director Taylor Hackford, who is also 80.<\/p>\n \u201cThe hardest part is the condescension \u2013 it really annoys me,\u201d the Thursday Murder Club star told The Times<\/a> in a new interview.<\/p>\n \u201cIf my husband and I are holding hands, someone might say, \u2018Oh, look. How sweet.\u2019 It\u2019s like, excuse my language, \u2018F*** off.\u2019 <\/p>\n She added: \u201cThere\u2019s something very condescending about some people\u2019s attitudes and I think they think they are being kind and generous. But they\u2019re not. They\u2019re being insulting.\u201d<\/p>\n Mirren said she is not \u201cafraid of getting older\u201d as she\u2019s realised her mindset has evolved over the passing years.<\/p>\n open image in gallery<\/p>\n Dame Helen Mirren says she\u2019s often patronised by younger people (Getty Images)<\/p>\n \u201cAn amazing thing happens. When you\u2019re 18 the thought of being 35 is horrific. And you get to 35 and it\u2019s actually a lot better than being 18. And when you\u2019re 35 the thought of being 55.<\/p>\n \u201cThen you hit 55 and you realise there are great things about being 55. Your life has moved on, you lose certain stuff but you gain other stuff.\u2019 That\u2019s certainly the case for me.\u201d<\/p>\n Mirren<\/a>, who won an Oscar for 2006 film The Queen, has been married to Hackford (An Officer and a Gentlemen) since 1997. <\/p>\n The couple don\u2019t have any kids, with Mirren previously telling The Sunday Times: \u201cI have never had a moment of regret about not having children.\u201d<\/p>\n Hackford had a son named Rio from previous marriage to Georgia Lowres.
