But now that the election is wrapped and the votes have been counted, election signs across the city need to come down.

Election signs were permitted under the city’s sign by law from Oct. 2 until 7:59 p.m. on Thursday.

Candidates and third-party advertisers are now required to remove all signs, with fines of $200 per sign up to a maximum of $2,000.

“Signs removed by the City will be stored for 30 days,” the city says. “During this period, sign owners may request their signs be returned by contacting Enforcement and By-law Services to schedule an appointment.”

There’s also a $50 fee for each appointment. After the 30-day storage period, unclaimed signs may be disposed of by the city. Total fines under the bylaw can’t exceed $5,000.

The 2026 municipal election was the first under the city’s updated election-sign rules, which were introduced following problems during the 2022 campaign. In that race, some 6,400 illegally placed signs from candidates were seized racking up more than $150,000 in fines.

The new rules gave candidates a much shorter period in which they can display signs, while also setting out stricter requirements for where those signs can go.

Election signs are allowed on private property, but candidates must have the property owner’s permission. Residential properties can have one sign per candidate or third-party advertiser, while non-residential properties can have up to three.

For more information on the city’s election sign bylaw and rules, click here.

INSAUGA Canada’s Editorial Standards and Policies

Last 30 Days: 50,791 Votes

All Time: 1,600,467 Votes

    1619 VOTES
Are you happy with the election results in your town or city?

Stay in the know.

Subscribe now to receive our daily email of today’s top stories in your city!

Candidates who ran in the municipal election now need to have all of their signs removed or face…

[194339
51759,49,48
post-952277","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-brampton","tag-brampton","tag-ca","tag-canada
["GET
