For better or worse, one of the key storylines of these 2026 WNBA Finals has been the questions over where the Dream’s home games would be played.

Before the series, those questions lingered, and ahead of a massive Game 6, they came back up. Ultimately, the solution the WNBA and Atlanta landed upon was playing in Atlanta’s State Farm Arena during a Thursday afternoon, hours before the NBA’s Hawks also hosted a game at the venue.

The late time change for Game 6 — a Dream win that forced Saturday’s Game 7 — was anticipated to negatively impact ratings and viewership. Instead, data showed the matchup held strong compared to the rest of the series.

WNBA Finals Game 6 ratings

Thursday’s Game 6 began at 12:30 p.m. ET, but according to Sports Media Watch, it still averaged 1.5 million viewers, based on Nielson panel-only estimates across USA Network, E! and SyFy and Adobe Analytics-measured streaming data on Peacock. That represented the fifth-largest WNBA Finals audience ever on cable.

In fact, that figure of 1.5 million viewers on average out-drew Game 2 (1.33 million), which was in prime time on USA Network, and Game 5 (1.43 million), which was on the same night as a “Monday Night Football” game and the World Series.

Because of the late time change to be held in the afternoon, ratings were expected to take a hit for Game 6. Instead, it was one of the stronger WNBA Finals viewerships on record.

Here’s a look at the viewership numbers from the series so far:

The Dream have been dealing with issues finding a home arena to play in for their deep WNBA playoff run due to the Hawks’ season beginning and State Farm Arena’s other commitments. Rather than settle for a smaller arena, the WNBA’s solution to the issue for Game 6 was moving up the start time from prime time (8 p.m. ET) to 12:30 p.m. ET on Thursday.

The change allowed the Dream to play at State Farm Arena before the Hawks played later in the day.

All three Dream home games had to be rescheduled during the WNBA Finals. That won’t be an issue come 2027, as the team will officially be moving to State Farm Arena.
