The Cubs have signed right-hander Gabe Klobosits<\/a> to a new minor league contract, 7 News\u2019 Ari Alexander<\/a> reports.\u00a0 Klobosits is back for his second year in the organization, after his minors deal last offseason resulted in a 3.51 ERA, 26.9% strikeout rate, and 13.8% walk rate over 33 1\/3 innings with the Cubs\u2019 Triple-A affiliate in Iowa.<\/p>\n

This marked Klobosits\u2019 first taste of affiliated baseball since 2023, as he spent the previous two years with independent league teams.\u00a0 The righty was a 36th-round pick for the Nationals in the 2017 draft, and he has pitched in parts of nine pro seasons with some notable interruptions \u2014 Klobosits missed most of 2018-19 due to Tommy John surgery, and he didn\u2019t pitch at all in 2020 when the minor league season was canceled by the pandemic.<\/p>\n

Klobosits\u2019 tenure in Washington paid off with some playing time at the big league level, as the righty\u2019s MLB resume consists of 11 1\/3 innings of 5.56 ball for the Nats during the 2021 season.\u00a0 He then pitched in the minors with the A\u2019s and Blue Jays over the next two years before turning to indy ball.<\/p>\n
