\n\tGreen Room<\/a> director Jeremy Saulnier<\/a> paid tribute to Patrick Stewart<\/a> ahead of a Los Angeles screening of the film on Friday, recalling how the sci-fi icon \u201cjust swooped down, nosedived into our cruddy ass movie and saved us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCelebrating the film\u2019s 10th anniversary, Saulnier addressed the crowd and noted Stewart\u2019s death<\/a> at 86.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWho\u2019s sad as fuck we lost Patrick Stewart yesterday? Me,\u201d he said in a video posted on the Film Updates X<\/a> account. \u201cI came here to shamelessly promote Slayground, but instead, I\u2019m just gonna celebrate Patrick Stewart. He had no business doing this movie. He every option to do otherwise.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThe director remembered how production on Green Room was \u201cat the point of no return, building sets, and under the gun without Darcy,\u201d noting that the lead character of Darcy Banker had not yet been cast. However, that\u2019s when the Star Trek star came in. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe\u2019re fucked, and we were close to shutting down. And Patrick Stewart, out of the blue, sort of expressed interest in the project,\u201d Saulnier said. \u201cAnd in a whirlwind, about a week later, I was on the phone with him. I left the stage [thinking,] \u2018Maybe we\u2019re gonna have to break down the sets and shut the whole movie down.\u2019 Instead, this dude came out of nowhere, from way above our sort of zone, and just swooped down, nosedived into our cruddy ass movie and saved us, and said yes. And the movie was instantly greenlit.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe moved forward, and I thank him for just taking that leap and making Green Room a thing,\u201d he added. \u201cPatrick Stewart is why I still can make movies. He saved the day. Too good to be true.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThe Rebel Ridge director remembered Stewart as a \u201cfucking sweetheart, true gentleman, [who was a] very kind leader to our whole cast.\u201d He also shared a story about how one day, the actor came to him and said he \u201cwanted to add a little something\u201d to a scene. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was like, \u2018What is it, Patrick?\u2019 He\u2019s like, \u2018Well, during this one part of the scene, when the camera\u2019s coming through there, I\u2019d like to say, fuck!\u2019 And I was like, \u2018And?\u2019 \u2018Just fuck.\u2019 I was like. \u2018Permission granted, sir,\u2019\u201d Saulnier recounted. \u201cAnd I just knew that he was completely aligned with the film, its aesthetic, its intentions and with me as a filmmaker, and it was just this lovely, lovely thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tStewart died Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles following \u201ca brief and poignant journey with Alzheimer\u2019s disease and Lewy body dementia,\u201d longtime spokesperson Kelly Bush Novak announced. After his death, his former co-stars and Hollywood notables shared an outpouring of tributes<\/a>.<\/p>\n
