And looking forward to some more battles in the future,&#8221;\u00a0the 20-year-old said.<\/p>\n<p>Antonelli, who secured the title with four races remaining, said the final lap was complicated by the excitement of what he had achieved.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think I lost two seconds because I could not see ahead, I think I saw two Ferraris,&#8221;\u00a0he said. &#8220;It was very special, a lot of memories went through my mind at that moment, and I let it all out after achieving one of my biggest dreams.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Antonelli has now risen to 380 points with four races remaining. Verstappen (261) snuck past Hamilton (259) in the standings, but they will be racing for second the rest of the \u200bway.<\/p>\n<p><img data-format=\"MASTER_LANDSCAPE\" data-id=\"79825189\" data-url=\"https:\/\/static.dw.com\/image\/79825189_${formatId}.jpg\" data-aspect-ratio=\"16\/9\" alt=\"Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli crosses the chequered flag to finish third in the race and clinch the 2026 Formula One World Championship\" style=\"padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; max-height: 0;\"\/>Antonelli said the final lap was complicated by the excitement of what he had achievedImage: Daniel Becerril\/REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>Antonelli started the race in \u200bfourth and needed to finish \u200cninth or better to secure the championship on Sunday no matter what his peers did.<\/p>\n<p>He had a relatively smooth run, though the race was interrupted by a red flag around Lap \u200b45 when Valtteri Bottas crashed.<\/p>\n<p>Verstappen, meanwhile, claimed his sixth victory at the Mexico City Grand Prix, further cementing his affinity with the circuit.<\/p>\n<p>After Mexico, F1 will head to Brazil and then to Las Vegas.<\/p>\n<p>The final two Grands Prix are scheduled to be held in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
