It is very strange to see both sides being hit in near
\nsimultaneous cyber attacks on two similar but entirely separate alert
\nsystems.<\/p>\n

I reached out to a contact in the Ukrainian hacktivist community
\nwho said that it suggests that Ukraine hacked Russia\u2019s alert system as part of
\na retaliation.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost likely this was a retaliatory hack\u201d the hacker said. <\/p>\n

The contact says that hacking alert systems is a tactic that,
\nuntil now, had “not been used due to moral and ethical considerations”.<\/p>\n

Social media reports show that the Ukrainian app Trivoha was
\nhacked first and then Russia\u2019s equivalent was hit shortly after. <\/p>\n

On a popular Ukrainian Telegram group about air raids, the
\nmessages show discussions about the hack of Trivoha followed by screenshots of
\nRussia\u2019s alert system showing the hack message to Russians. <\/p>\n

The poster on the
\ngroup of 20,000 celebrated the apparent strike back saying \u201chaha,
\nquickly\u201d. <\/p>\n

It is not clear, though, which alert system was hit first. <\/p>\n

If this is confirmed as a tit-for-tat scenario, it implies that
\nwhoever struck second had the power to carry out the hack but chose to hold off
\nuntil its own system was hit.<\/p>\n

There has been no official response though and no groups have yet
