{"id":955606,"date":"2026-11-02T14:52:12","date_gmt":"2026-11-02T14:52:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/955606\/"},"modified":"2026-11-02T14:52:12","modified_gmt":"2026-11-02T14:52:12","slug":"mercedes-fined-for-george-russell-skipping-f1-mexico-gp-media-duties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/955606\/","title":{"rendered":"Mercedes fined for George Russell skipping F1 Mexico GP media duties"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/team\/mercedes\/5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Mercedes<\/a> was fined \u20ac5,000 following the Mexico Grand Prix after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/george-russell\/21167\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">George Russell<\/a> failed to attend his post-race Formula 1 media commitments.<\/p>\n<p>The Mercedes driver finished sixth at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez despite starting Sunday\u2019s race in second, having dropped four positions on lap one due to a poor battery.<\/p>\n<p>Russell also suffered a 10s penalty for colliding into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/isack-hadjar\/827922\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Isack Hadjar<\/a> at Turn 6, causing sixth to be the best he could hope for on the day that team-mate Kimi Antonelli became world champion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe stewards heard from the team representative that the driver had left the circuit without attending the post race media commitments,\u201d read the\u00a0FIA report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNoting that the stewards can proceed to make a determination in the case of a non attendance at a hearing, a penalty of \u20ac5,000 is imposed on the competitor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mercedes was in breach of Article B10.1.4e of the regulations with stewards stating that \u201cthe driver failed to attend the hearing and the team representative gave evidence via telephone\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/charles-leclerc-ferrari-lando-.jpg\" alt=\"Charles Leclerc, Ferrari, Lando Norris, McLaren, George Russell, Mercedes\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">Charles Leclerc, Ferrari, Lando Norris, McLaren, George Russell, Mercedes<\/p>\n<p class=\"photographer\">Photo by: Colin McMaster \/ LAT Images via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>But it later emerged that Silver Arrows boss Toto Wolff had given Russell permission to leave the track early on what was a bruising day for the pre-season title favourite.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw George after the race on the FIA scales and obviously he\u2019s distraught about the situation,\u201d said Wolff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a great show of sportsmanship to go and see Kimi. I have known George for such a long time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe&#8217;s going through a hard time, but he was also responsible in getting the young man into this team. So I saw him, and for a racing driver this is a catastrophic moment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe the race was a little bit a picture of his season. This was a race for him to win. We had the pace in the car and we let him down on the first straight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe energy delivery is not what we thought it should be. I&#8217;m very much with him at the moment. I&#8217;ve been in situations where it&#8217;s very difficult to cope.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHim not doing the media work or leaving the track is absolutely understandable. Him staying would have actually surprised me.
