Carson Hocevar brake checked Austin Cindric at Martinsville Speedway. Not once or twice, but four times.<\/p>\n
Carson Hocevar brake checks Austin Cindric (Video)<\/a><\/p>\n On the fourth brake check, Cindric\u2019s front nose was completely caved it. The No. 2 car was forced to the garage area with heavy damage.<\/p>\n Austin Cindric stated over the radio, \u201cHe just threw a temper tantrum.\u201d<\/p>\n After the race, Hocevar didn\u2019t admit any blame. Likely because when drivers have taken blame, it has resulted in an immediate penalty. Instead, Hocevar called it short track racing.<\/p>\n Denny Hamlin says Carson Hocevar doesn\u2019t have to admit it to get a penalty<\/p>\n Denny Hamlin: \u201cThey don\u2019t like intentional wrecking. I\u2019ve gotten that penalty. What\u2019s the different in wrecking from the front versus wrecking from the rear?\u201d<\/p>\n Dale Earnhardt Jr: \u201cWhen you\u2019re going to intentionally wreck somebody, you better make it look good. You better not make it obvious. You don\u2019t want to right-hook a guy. The brake checking stuff is kinda similar, you can make it look like \u2018whoops\u2019. Or you can make it obvious in the middle of the straightaway. Hocevar\u2019s was absolutely obvious and he didn\u2019t even try to hide it.\u201d<\/p>\n Hamlin added, \u201cYou don\u2019t have to admit it. Why are you hitting the brakes down the straightaways?\u201d<\/p>\n Dale Jr: \u201cNeither Berry or Hocevar admitted to doing anything.\u201d<\/p>\n Hamlin: \u201cThat shouldn\u2019t matter.\u201d<\/p>\n Dale Jr: \u201cIt shouldn\u2019t but that\u2019s the precedent. I\u2019m going off of what I\u2019ve seen in the past. You think they would penalize him?\u201d<\/p>\n Hamlin: \u201cHe wrecked him.\u201d<\/p>\n Dale Jr: \u201cOh I get it, I know.\u201d<\/p>\n Hamlin: \u201cThey had to take the bumpers out because dude these hits hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n Dale Jr: \u201cI know. What the [expletive], I know!\u201d<\/p>\n Hamlin: \u201cYou weaponed your car and knocked the guys freaking nose in. Three times!\u201d<\/p>\n Weaker front bumpers were installed for this event at Martinsville Speedway<\/p>\n The Next Gen cars were built solid. Too solid. Taking constant hits in the bumper on short track was becoming an issue.<\/p>\n NASCAR brought a softer front end to the track at Martinsville to lessen impacts from bump-and-runs. However, the rear still remains solid and it can now be used as a weapon.<\/p>\n Denny Hamlin explained, \u201cThis thing was built like a tank. I got all the drivers together and said, \u2018Guys, I\u2019m worried about how hard these hits are going to be.\u2019 \u201c<\/p>\n \u201cThey said, \u2018It\u2019s the same\u2019. [expletive], it was not the same.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThey had to start cutting this car up. It was meant to buy a car and you\u2019re going to run it all year long because it is a tank. Now, it\u2019s not. Which is why our costs have gone through the roof.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cExpensive cars, $350,000. And, we\u2019re replacing braces.\u201d<\/p>\n The front end bracing and pieces total roughly $75,000.<\/p>\n \u201cThey started noticing it. So, when the bumper crushes, now the rear clip is going to fold up. As a car owner it sucks, now we gotta buy all these rear clips.
