As everyday is a good day for “Bubbles.” Sparkling wine is perfect for a family celebration or an intimate evening. It is ideal alongside popcorn, a charcuterie or Sunday morning brunch. Here is a small selection of B.C. sparkling wines, both Charmat and Traditional Method that will support my belief.

A Chardonnay, Pinot Noir blend, Secco is the first Charmat Method sparkling wine from Sandhill. The first and second fermentation in s/s produced a dry, light, fresh bubbly. Copious tiny bubbles carry the apple and citrus aromas and flavours through to the finish. Greet your friends with Secco, soft cheeses and seafood.

A Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Viognier blend, with a titch of Pinot Noir and Merlot, Adega Estate Winery’s Espumante is a fun wine. Off-dry, nicely balanced, the pop of the cork greets you with tiny bubbles and an avalanche of fruit on the nose and palate. Enjoy it with your Sunday brunch.

An old friend, Ti Amo is a blend of Hester Creek’s estate grown Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Muscat grapes. A wee bit off-dry, after a second stainless steel fermentation, I could happily serve it every day. Aromas and flavours of apple and pear, stone fruits and a smidgeon of spice. Enjoy it alongside a charcuterie of soft cheese and spicy sausage.

A Naramata grown blend of Auxerrois, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the 2025 Narrative XC Sparkling wine is delicate, yet it fills your mouth with an explosion of tropical fruit and florals. Concrete, S/S and oak aged, it is fresh and fruit forward. Chill it and enjoy it with Sushi.

Fans of de-alcoholised wine won’t be disappointed with Narrative XC .05% Sparkling wine. I’d be happy to serve it to my friends or family. A misty rose hue, a crisp and fresh nose and palate of strawberry, oodles of little bubbles lasting to the finish. Serve it with a plate of mild cheese and berries or a dessert of stewed rhubarb

Aged thirty-six months in the 40 Knots Estate Winery cellar followed by eight to twelve months beneath the Salish Sea, in constant cool temperatures and complete darkness, the Coastal Resonance is a traditional method limited-edition blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Each numbered bottle in a handcrafted box bears the mark of its underwater adventure.

Noble Ridge Vineyards 2022 “The Pink One” is a refined, crisp blend of Pinot Noir clones 114,115 and 777. The latter brings the complexity of aromas, balanced acidity and silky tannins. 114 & 115 deep pink hues, hints of baked goods and ripe berries.

A resident of Qualicum Beach, Chris Herbert is a wine enthusiast who enjoys sharing everything that B.C. wines have to offer.
