\n\tPlatonic<\/a> star and executive producer Seth Rogen<\/a> said he understands why viewers are expecting romance between his character and that of Rose Byrne<\/a>\u2018s in the Apple TV+<\/a> comedy.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile on Late Night with Seth Meyers recently, the multi-hyphenate acknowledged he gets the fan fixation because of the \u201cprecedent\u201d set by other shows like seminal sitcom Friends<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cPeople are very fixated on this idea that we will one day get together,\u201d the actor-cum-writer said. \u201cAnd I get why, honestly. Like, we grew up with a show called Friends, and they all f\u2014ed each other. Every friend f\u2014ed every other friend.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMeyers agreed, joking, \u201cNo one went unf\u2014ed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cNo friend will go unf\u2014ed,\u201d Rogen added.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThat was the original title,\u201d Meyers continued.<\/p>\n

\n\tRogen riffed, \u201cF\u2014 Friends,\u201d adding that the famed capuchin monkey featured in the series (in the episode \u201cThe One With the Monkey\u201d) also probably had a romantic backstory: \u201cMarcel got f\u2014ed, I would assume. I would pay to see the Marcel spinoff show where you see him f\u2014.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Studio co-creator concluded, \u201cAnyway, I get why people think we\u2019re gonna have sex because of the f\u2014 precedent that Friends set,\u201d adding onto Meyers\u2019 joke that the \u201990s-era NBC comedy \u201cruined it for everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCo-created, directed and co-written by Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, Platonic follows a pair of collegiate best friends who reconnect as adults (Rogen and Byrne). Season 2 picks up as the duo contend with new midlife hurdles, including work, weddings and partners in crises. Additional cast members include Luke Macfarlane and Carla Gallo, as the sophomore installment introduces Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennett as guest stars. Season 2 premiered on Apple TV+ Aug. 6 and will air its finale Oct. 1.<\/p>\n

\n\tSpeaking to Deadline at the TV Contenders event earlier this year, Delbanco said of the two characters: \u201cIt is the lowest fi idea in history. There\u2019s no suspense or tension about \u2018Will they or won\u2019t they?\u2019 They\u2019re just buddies. We thought it was important to try to represent that, the possibility that men and women can be friends with each other and those friendships can provide something friendships with your own gender can\u2019t provide \u2014 or something extra.\u201d<\/p>\n
