While Vancouver is typically pretty damp through October, this year was pretty dry.<\/p>\n

In fact, it was drier than September or August. And it was one of the Top 10 driest Octobers in the last 130 years in Vancouver, according to Environment Canada meteorologist Steve Boily.<\/p>\n

The beginning of the month was quite dry, with only 14.3 millimitres\u00a0of rain by the two-thirds mark. The end of the month did bring some showers, though no deluge. By the end of Halloween, Vancouver saw 38.8 mm of precipitation.<\/p>\n

That’s well below the average of 123.9 mm normally recorded at the airport, says Boily.<\/p>\n

“We were just above 30 per cent of the average\u00a0we get in Vancouver,” he says. “So drier, much drier.”<\/p>\n

Temperature-wise, it was close to\u00a0average at 10.6 C\u00a0(compared to 10.3 C)\u00a0which is the normal over the past 30 years.<\/p>\n

But there was a hot spot, as Oct. 16 hit 21.7 C (normally it’s around 14 C). It wasn’t record-breaking, though, as the mercury rose to\u00a023.3 C on Oct. 16, 1929.<\/p>\n

November should be\u00a0wetter<\/p>\n

Despite the dry October, November 2026 looks to be more\u00a0damp<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“The wettest month on average is November, and it looks like this week we should get close to normal precipitation,” Boily says. “The start of November is looking more familiar.<\/p>\n

“There will probably be a little bit more than average\u00a0on week two,” he says.<\/p>\n

The average for Vancouver across the whole month is around 245 mm.<\/p>\n

“We definitely\u00a0get much more precipitation in November than October,” Boily says.<\/p>\n

November may be warmer as well, he adds, but it’s not clear by how much.<\/p>\n

Later in the year, Vancouver may feel the effects of a “super\u00a0El Ni\u00f1o” weather pattern.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"While Vancouver is typically pretty damp through October, this year was pretty dry.
