A shelter-in-place order issued as police responded to a dangerous weapons call at a University of Toronto dormitory in Mississauga has been partially lifted.

The school announced the update in an alert early Tuesday, adding that the lockdown remains in effect for McLuhan Court residence.

The alert says the situation has been contained to a single residential unit and that there have been no reports of physical injuries.

Peel Regional Police have said the immediate area was evacuated late Monday and urged the public to stay away.

On social media, the force described the matter as a dangerous weapons call, though further details have not yet been shared.

The university says on its website that McLuhan Court provides beds for hundreds of first-year students.

Police were called about the situation at 9:11 p.m. In alert issued by the university after 9 p.m., students were told to shelter in place at the UTM campus due to an “active threat.”

The school said it had received reports of police activity at McLuhan Court residence, 3330 Residence Road.

“Active threat. Take shelter immediately and secure doors,” it told students in a post on social media platform X.

Listen to this article Estimated 2 minutes The audio version of this article is generated by AI-based technology.…

[194291
49,48,3302
post-956634","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-toronto","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-toronto
["GET
