{"id":956706,"date":"2026-11-03T12:02:12","date_gmt":"2026-11-03T12:02:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/956706\/"},"modified":"2026-11-03T12:02:12","modified_gmt":"2026-11-03T12:02:12","slug":"africa-cdc-revises-latest-ebola-outbreak-toll-to-over-5300","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/956706\/","title":{"rendered":"Africa CDC revises latest Ebola outbreak toll to over 5,300"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Africa&#8217;s top health agency revised the death toll from the continent&#8217;s latest Ebola outbreak to 5,376 people, most of whom died in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysabah.com\/world\/africa\/dr-congo-ebola-outbreak-deadliest-ever-in-countrys-history\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Democratic Republic of Congo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) data shared Monday, 5,372 deaths occurred in Congo, with two each in Kenya and Uganda.<\/p>\n<p>Congo declared its 17th Ebola outbreak in mid-May. The disease, which causes hemorrhagic fever and spreads through contact with bodily fluids, has killed more than 15,000 people in Africa over the past 50 years.<\/p>\n<p>In the latest outbreak, 10,444 cases have been confirmed, with a fatality rate of more than 50%.<\/p>\n<p>The virus has crossed borders several times in recent months. Neighboring Uganda recorded 20 cases, almost all involving people who traveled from Congo, before being declared Ebola-free in August.<\/p>\n<p>In October, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysabah.com\/world\/africa\/kenya-ebola-outbreak-claims-2nd-life-as-9-cases-confirmed\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kenya reported nine infections<\/a>, marking its first recorded Ebola case.<\/p>\n<p>That month, Nigeria, Africa&#8217;s most populous country, also reported an Ebola case involving a 42-year-old Swiss woman whose husband works at the Swiss embassy in Abuja.
