US President \u2060Donald \u2060Trump says he made a deal with \u2060Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that \u2060Washington would no longer be providing funding to Israel after the end of this \u200cyear.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow, as far as paying Israel, Bibi Netanyahu and I have made a deal that we give Israel $4bn \u2060a year, and \u2060we made a deal months ago that we\u2019re stopping,\u201d Trump told \u2060Fox News\u2019 Fox and Friends after voting in the midterm elections began.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve \u2060already agreed that \u2060by the end of this year we won\u2019t be paying Israel. \u200cNow we\u2019ll help Israel if they need it.\u201d<\/p>\n
It was not immediately clear what form of aid Trump was discussing. The US State Department did not immediately respond to an Al Jazeera request for comment.<\/p>\n
Military aid to Israel, and US political campaign contributions from Israel\u2019s backers to candidates, have been a flashpoint for both Democrats and Republicans this year.<\/p>\n
